User Reminders
Overview
SchoolCal lets you set custom calendar reminders for each user on a per-class basis. Instead of relying on a user's global calendar reminder defaults, you can configure exactly when they get notified before events for each class — for example, 1 hour before math, but only 10 minutes before homeroom.
Reminders are set by admins on behalf of users, and are applied at sync time so they appear directly on the calendar events.
Prerequisite: User Event Preferences (School Setting)
Reminders are part of the User Event Preferences feature. It must be enabled before reminders can be configured.
- In the SchoolCal admin dashboard, go to Settings.
- Find the User Event Preferences panel (palette icon).
- Set the access mode to Allow by Role or Allow Specific Users.
- Click Save.
Note: If set to Off, the Reminders column will not be available.
How to Get There
- In the SchoolCal admin dashboard, go to Users.
- Find and click the user you want to configure.
- Click the Preferences tab.
You'll see a table listing the user's classes. Each row includes a Reminders column on the right side.
Set a Reminder for a Class
- In the Reminders column, turn the toggle on for a class.
- Use the dropdown to select how far in advance the reminder should fire:
- 5 minutes
- 10 minutes
- 15 minutes
- 30 minutes
- 1 hour
- 1 day
- Changes save automatically.
To disable reminders for a class, turn the toggle off.
Notes
- Reminders are per-user and per-class. A user can have different reminder timing for different classes.
- Custom reminders set here override the user's default calendar reminder settings for those events.
- Available reminder delivery methods (pop-up, email, etc.) depend on the user's connected calendar platform — Google Calendar or Outlook.
- Changes may take a short time to reflect in the user's calendar depending on sync frequency.
